Summer 2017 has been a succession of epic adventures for the Woodfired Canteen Team, but a major highlight was back in July when we delivered the opening banquet at Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire.
We served over 300 people on the first night of the award-winning festival, which takes place every year in a beautiful nature reserve and has been described by The Times as “inspired and out of this world.”
Cornish produce naturally took centre-stage in a menu which included Duchy Charcuterie, De Bara Bread, Cornish Lamb and Rodda’s Clotted Cream.
Our whole team was energised by the opportunity to demonstrate what we do at a world-class festival, and we were really proud to showcase some fantastic Cornish ingredients.
Although it was a challenge serving such a large number, we’ve had plenty of practice at the regular events we run – for example at The Lost Gardens Of Heligan – so it was simply a question of taking our woodfired model to the festival and giving our guests a fabulous experience.
Banquets on following nights were given by Yotam Ottolenghi, Thomasina Miers and Nuno Mendes – but the organisers couldn’t resist the allure of Cornwall for the opening celebration.
We hope to be back at Wilderness next year - watch this space!
